Boston’s Eat for Equity kicks off International Women’s Day benefit suppers Feb. 25

Happy 2011 to you all!

We’re starting the new year off right, with 3 (count ’em: THREE) Eat for Equity dinners scheduled over the next few months. As you may or may not know, 2011 marks the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day, celebrated March 8 all over the world to recognize the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. We are going to celebrate here in Boston by raising money for three organizations working to directly benefit women in developing countries. We’ll start February 25 with the Dominican Republic, continue March 25 with Cambodia, and follow May 27 with Mali. We hope you can join us!

For our February 25th Eat for Equity, we invite you all to Cambridge to raise money for PROFAMLIA (apologies for the shaky Google translation) and the International Planned Parenthood Federation to support their work in the Dominican Republic. Specifically, the money we raise will benefit the Mobile Health Unit, which brings health services to impoverished, underserved, and marginalized communities, including displaced Haitian migrants. For many, this is the only health care they have access to. Within a small medically equipped van, a PROFAMILIA doctor can provide services such as Pap Smears, birth control options, and general information about sexual and reproductive health. PROFAMILIA also offers youth education classes, with a special emphasis on teaching young women in post-crisis situations about violence against women, sexual health, and their personal rights.

Please join us on February 25th for our Eat for Equity Dinner to raise money for the Mobile Health Unit program. If you haven’t heard about these dinners yet, here’s how it works: You donate $10 – $15 to this worthy organization, and in return you get a delicious Dominican dinner, some drinks, and great company.

When? February 25th, 8pm
Where? Our great friend, Emily Kay, is hosting E4E DR. Please email [email protected] for address and directions.
What will it cost me? $10 – $15 suggested donation (more is always welcome!)
What do I get? Dinner, drinks, an excellent night out for an excellent cause
Who can come? You, your friends, your coworkers, your boyfriend, your girlfriend, your cousin from out of town… The more the merrier!

We hope you can make it! We’ll be sending out various methods of RSVPing, including Facebook and Evite. We would appreciate it if you would respond to at least one of them so we know roughly how much to cook. Look out for reminder emails closer to the date with the MENU(!) and other important information.

If you cannot join us, please consider making a donation through our Brown Paper Tickets link. Rest assured that whatever you donate there will be handled securely, and will be added to our final contribution to PROFAMLIA.

If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact Rebecca ([email protected]), Martha ([email protected]), Clara ([email protected]), or Holly ([email protected]).

We hope to see you on February 25th!

Cheers,
Eat for Equity Boston
