Portland: May 7 supper for Student Alliance Project
posted: Monday, May 2nd, 2011Join us Saturday, May 7th, 2011 for a Latin American feast to support the Student Alliance Project (and in honor of International Workers Rights Day and Cinco de Mayo!)
This month your money will go to Portland’s own Student Alliance Project. The organization got started by filming the documentary “Papers,” a story of some of the 2 milllion (!) undocumented youth living in America, and the struggles they face as they reach adulthood without legal status–unable to work, drive, or often attend college. Over 350 Portland/Vancouver area students participated in the making of “Papers,” and later the Papers Youth Crew developed into the Student Alliance Project.
The Student Alliance Project http://www.dosomething.org/project/student-alliance-project-previously-papers-youth-crew is now a “youth-led collaboration to cultivate a new cadre of multi-cultural young leaders in Oregon and Southwest Washington equipped to become some of our country’s next college graduates, public policy advocates, community organizers, entrepreneurs and mentors.” And: “Most importantly, it is the youth themselves who guide and implement this project.”
Come support the Student Alliance Project by learning more from representatives of the SAP, celebrating with great food, and giving generously (suggested donation $8-15).

See you Saturday!
