E4E November 19: Just Health Network
posted: Tuesday, November 15th, 2011In October, we smashed an Eat for Equity record together, and sent $2400 to Sisters’ Camelot, a mobile organic food shelf in the Twin Cities. Sisters’ distributes more than 1.7 million dollars of fresh organic produce to low-income neighborhoods in Saint Paul and Minneapolis. Sisters’ Camelot graciously let us cook up a storm on their Bluebird Kitchen bus. See pics and find out more at our website, eatforequity.org.
This month, come to east Africa.
Your supper money will go to Just Health Network and its partnerships in Kenya and Uganda. The Organic Health Response works on Mfangano Island in Lake Victoria, one of the poorest and most isolated areas in Africa, and now suffering from some of the highest rates of HIV and malaria in the world. This summer, JHN and OHR created the Minnesota-OHR Kenya Alliance, which trains medical students as community health workers on the island.
In Uganda, longtime JHN partners Drs. Alex and Francis, are opening a clinic in their home village of Patongo, in a region that has still not fully recovered from the predations of the Lord’s Resistance Army. The nearest clinical care is over two hours away, and many patients must travel for much longer. The Patongo clinic will provide access to much-needed primary care, as well as treatment for emergent surgical conditions. JHN hopes to furnish the clinic with basic equipment such as an autoclave, purchased with your donations.
